It attracted huge crowds to Wembley and the TV viewing figures were enormous - 17.4 million of us tuned in to see England's Women's Football team triumphing over Germany in the Euros final.

Those who witnessed it will confirm, it was a moment in history and the scoreline 2-1 reflected the narrow margins at stake. But what will be the lasting legacy? Will there be a rush to sign up for women's footie across the nation & will we all be out buying sportswear to reflect our new found enthusiasm for this game ?

Certainly this good piece of news couldn't have come at a better time. Politicians scrapping at home, the war in Ukraine & a general feeling of unease and worry about the economy with interest rates hikes to combat rising inflation.

All these concerns were put on the backburner whilst we were able to cheer on our Lionesses' and the trophy has genuinely 'come home.' It helped that this major competition was on home turf but there's no doubt the confidence and competence to win was down to the combined effort between individuals and the hard work put in over many months by Dutch born England manager Sarina Wiegman. She's been working with the England team since September 2021.

Captain Leah Williamson's comment "what we've done for women and young girls that can look up and aspire to be like us" is already ricocheting through to sign ups with youth football training clubs. Little Kickers runs classes from 18 months to 8 years with 1,000 children joining over the 2 weeks following the tournament, 28 per cent of which are girls, with the boys also inspired by the women's positive role models seen on the pitch.

So far, the women's game, although professional, hasn't sparked the huge sums their male premier league equivalents command. Also it's cheaper to watch. In some cases the price of a season ticket for the women's season is what you would pay to see just a single men's game. There are qualifications of course. The Women's Super League consists of 12 teams and the Premier League 20 so season tickets offer fewer matches for the money.

Having said that there is the factor of supply and demand. Some 14 of the 20 Premier League sides have waiting lists for season tickets with some even charging up to £20 just to be on that list. Average ticket prices to see last seasons' Women's Super League champions, Chelsea cost between £9 and £10 for adults and yet it'd be a minimum of £25 to see the men maybe as much as £71.

There are caveats though - often the women's games are held in different locations to the men - Chelsea fans would have to travel to Kingston rather than Stamford Bridge. But Leicester City, Reading & Sheffield United all use their home stadiums for both sexes.

The official kit for the England teams is expensive for men & women - even for a simple tee. But the great thing is with personalising a non official garment is that you can make it your own and TShirt Studio's offerings for a shirt, contrast colour, tank or polo all represent great value. And you could add in accessories - maybe a bag like a duffel or backpack for your kit which are keenly priced. Plus of course an all important water bottle !

It's not just the Women's Euros which has spread an interest in sport across the nation. The Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham offered the 5,000 competing athletes huge audiences lapping up the exciting action. With stories behind every sports person's determination to qualify for the games, there's little doubt that sporting endeavour can offer a positive outlook despite the difficulties of day to day life in modern day Britain.
